President - Bob Reid
Bob has been participating in triathlons since 2002 and been a club member since 2005. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2008 as Treasurer and has been Vice President since 2011. In his first year on the Board, he initiated the Adopt-a-Highway program for MMTC where the club adopted a one-mile stretch of road on Route 108 near Centennial Park where members volunteer their time to clean up trash from the roadside. He strives to enhance the club and provide value to the members, often volunteering at triathlons and club events and mentoring new members. Organizing the "Gatorade Hill" water stop for Iron Girl is his favorite event, often dressing in costume. His favorite races are Savageman and XTERRA Rocky Gap.
Vice President - Sue Watson
Sue Watson joined the club in 2010 due to the persuasive
tactics of one Mike Barone. He also prevailed upon Sue's daughter Lizzy Cowan to join.
Sue has often wondered now why she waited so long! Sue has dabbled in triathlon for
15 years completing many races from sprint through the 70.3 distance. Her very first tri
was the Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon. Her last race in 2012 Was the Half Full Oly
which only felt like it took place in the ocean. There were short intervals of injured
reserve when a ripped plantar fasciia or a broken foot slowed her down. This year Sue
got serious, retired from her day job, and became a full time triathlete with her sights set
on Iron Man Lake Placid 2013. In her "spare time", Sue coaches the Constitutional Law
Moot Court Team at the University of Baltimore Law School. Sue also likes to cook. Just
ask Suzy Montoya. Last but not least Sue couldn't do any of this without Rob Cowan
her husband of 31 years and Sue's biggest fan. Sue is thrilled to be contributing to the
club this year.
Secretary - AleahZ
Aleah did her first IG in 2009 after being persuaded by friends to "try a tri." Aleah finally decided it would be a good idea to get a bike for this triathlon thing in June, and rode some. Being a runner, she didn't think she would need to train very much! Well, needless to say IG was an absolute disaster, but she was hooked and couldn't wait to do it again and learn from all the rookie mistakes! Since then, Aleah decided if she was going to be a triathlete, she should have the support of a club and joined MMTC in May of 2011. Life as a triathlete has never been the same! Completing numerous sprint and Oly tri's, three 1/2 iron distance, and her first full ironman in July of 2013 in Lake Placid. All this was made possible with love and support from the incredible people of MMTC! Aleah loves the triathlon community and supports as much as possible when not racing!
Treasurer - Jen Rutz
Jennifer has been participating in endurance events since 2003 when she completed her first marathon in Steamboat Springs, CO. Upon moving to the Baltimore area in 2004, she attended her first MMTC club meeting in the fall and completed the Columbia Triathlon in 2005. While training for Columbia she met her husband, Adam. Together they competed in Eagleman 70.3 and coordinated two teams to run the Ragnar Relay (Cumberland to DC) in 2008. Jennifer served as secretary for MMTC in 2009 and 2010. After having two kids (Charlotte and Griffin), Jennifer was happy to get back into triathlons by completing the Half Full Olympic last year. She is very excited to be back on the Board of Directors and more involved in the triathlon community.
Communications - Cathy Tucker
Having enjoyed swimming throughout the years and participating in several marathons in her adult life, Cathy made a smooth transition to competing in triathlons in 2010. So much so, she completed two half ironman distance races and the American TTT in her first year of racing. Her love for endurance racing propelled her into doing two Ironman races in back-to-back years in Louisville, KY. She has made many great friends and has found incredible resources being a part of Mid Maryland Tri Club.
Promotions & Apparel - Amy Petersen-Smith
Amy has lead an active life since her youth with various sports. In 2009, she decided to give Iron Girl Columbia a "tri" as a goal to learn how to swim, and has been addicted since. Since 2009 she has competed in multi tris in a half a dozen states. Most recently she completed her second half ironman distance at the Rev 3 Cedar Point and Escape from Alcatraz in San Francisco. Amy not only enjoys training and competing but loves to cook and spend time with her family.
Webmaster - Catherine Paquin
Cat has been involved with MMTC since 2006, when she completed Iron Girl Columbia as her first triathlon. Since then, she has completed several sprint and olympic distance races as well as Eagleman 70.3. She has been Webmaster since 2009 and enjoys contributing to a club that has given her so much support over the years! She enjoys volunteering with the Sunday Iron Girl rides from Princeton, Adopt-A-Highway trash pickup, multi-club rides, and other events around the community. Cat enjoys volunteering at Ironman Lake Placid, which she does almost every year. She and her husband Joe got married there and enjoy returning to the beautiful town to cheer on MMTC members and other participants.
