This was my "third" EagleMan Triathlon and I guess the third time was the "charm" because I had a personal best time and improved in the swim, bike and run. I've had a 20 minute improvement over each of the last two year. This will be very hard to match for next year. The weather conditions were ideal for the race with a high of 82 degrees, a light breeze and mostly overcast skies.
I was very careful with my nutrition during the race; drinking lots of water, Gatorade and other sports drinks, sports gels, and salt pills (about one every 15 min. the last two hours) to help prevent dehydration and fatigue. I think this helped a lot, because I was able to keep a constant pace (about 7:15 per mile) on the run. Unlike the last few years where I slowed down toward the end of the run.
The MMTC tent was a great welcome after the race. Well stocked with fruit, snacks and grilled burger, dogs and chicken. It was nice to see all the familiar faces and talked to club members and just hang out. Also at the "Carb" dinner the night before, it was nice talking to all the MMTC members.
