A personal record by a few seconds. The currents were favorable until the end when I had to swim directly against the current to exit the spans and head towards the marina.
The first three miles were easy and ahead of schedule (about 23 min each in H/R zone 2 or 3). Mile 2 had a gu (chocolate, yummy) Mile 3 found the food boat and had a half banana (they peeled it for me) and a cup a water. Mile 4 to the finish was more difficult and I ended up across AT a few times and wasn't getting much distance to show for it. I tried walking in towards the end but that was slower than just swimming it. If I had worked my way to the right sooner (about the 3 mile point) I would have had a much better time because I would have been swimming diagonally against the current and not had very far to push against it to get out to the marina.
This was my 5th time swimming across the bay in a row. I love it. But I'm considering Eagleman instead for next year. I got out of the water and though, where my bike? I guess I've crossed over that line from swimmer to triathelete.
