This was my first triathlon ever and I finished knowing I was going to do more!
The swim was mentally the most challenging mostly because I'm not a swimmer and was nervous about swimming in a lake with other people around me. That, and my training for this part consisted of swimming in my family's backyard 40ft swimming pool about 10 times before the race. I breast-stroked the whole thing!
I got to the bike and was finally ready to race! There were a lot of women out there on all types of bikes but I felt pretty good powering up 108. When I turned onto Mt. Albert, there were women strewn all over the road and I was worried how to get up it (we were supposed to only pass to people's left) - but I ended up "threading the needle" and getting to the top without a hitch. I was thrilled to turn around at the middle school and head back. I came into the transition zone still feeling strong.
After the bike, however, the run was TOUGH! Luckily, the Village People were manning a water stop so that made me smile. I later found out that they were MMTC folks - part of the reason I decided to join the club. Fun people! The run was tough with all of the climbing and I felt like my legs were just big pieces of lead most of the time.
It was nice to see my family and friends at the finish line. I felt elated when I was done - triathlon is such an accomplishment once you finish! I'm looking forward to doing more in 2007.
Last thing - I've doing running and cycling races in the past, but this was by far the best run race that I've ever competed in!
