Comment: I FINISHED!!!

Race Report:

This was my forst triathlon after taking a year off to finish school. Originally, my goal was to finish in less than 3:21. That was the time of my last Olympic distance race, the 2004 Collegiate Championships in 2004. That all changed when I rode and ran the course for the first time. The bike course in Arizona was just as hilly, but the run was flat. I still ended up in the medical tent afterwards. So my goal changed to finish strong.
Things got off to a rough start. Although I have done many open water swims (even in the ocean after a hurricane!), I started hyperventilating shortly after the swim start. Then came panic and thoughts of DNF. Started backstroking and calmed down enough to put my face back in the water and swim. Time: 34:26.
Transitions are usually my stong suit, and this one was MUCH better than my last effort in a wetsuit. T1: 2:40
I have never ridden or raced my bike in the rain, so nerves were stretched thin. I tried to be cautious, but to no avail. Another woman wiped out on the first roundabout right in front of me, and took me with her. Spent several shaky minutes getting my chain back on, then pressed on with a slightly messed up rear deraileur, even more cautiously! Bike time: 1:40.02
T2 not too bad: 1:30
I stink at running- get passed A LOT! That's ok, I still love the way I feel when I finish. I crossed the finish line with energy to spare, but still ended up in the medical tent with my bloody knee and road rash!!! Time: 1:14:28.
A big thanks to everyone at the MMTC tent- it was awesome to have a "home base", and a tattoo parlor too!
