The swim at this year's DITR was notable because it actually took place (unlike last year). The water was warm and choppy, and I heard someone say they needed to place some interim buoys on the course which I agree with. It would make it easier to navigate in the waves. The only buoys on race day were on the corners. The bike course in this race is the reason to do it. Some tough early climbs, but lots of high-speed pavement as well. One problem: I got caught up in car traffic in the town and couldn't pass them even though the cars were going pretty slow. The climb out of the town can be a challenge but it's manageable with correct gearing and hill training. The DITR run course is through some neighborhoods and has shady parts, very enjoyable.
