Bike 18 miles
I started training for this first tri about 2-3 months before with my main focus on swimming because I hadn't been a swimmer since I was a kid.
The swim was rough. My first wetsuit experience was very challenging (collar choking) and I learned that a lake swim is very different than the pool. I was exhausted when I finished, but my time at 21 minutes wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I ran/walked into T1 and mentally regrouped to get on the bike (it seems at this point in a triathlon a mandatory nap would be a good idea. I'll write to the USAT officials about that). Anyway, my bike pace started slow, but I felt better after a few miles and for the rest of the ride. My bike seat broke, which made it hard to keep a good position so ultimately my bike was pretty slow (1:27:36 for 18 miles). My run was also slower than I trained, but happily I felt strong at the end so I sprinted the last 1/4 mile leaving me a 6 second window to make my cut-off goal of 2hrs and 30 minutes. ...itzallgood!
