Race Report:

This was my very first triathlon, after having just learned to swim (free-style) in October. I was much more concerned with finishing than the time, and the final times showed it. :) I am very much looking forward to more races this summer that I have signed up for, and besting the times I had this go round. I didn't have a sense of how hard I could go and still finish- I guess that comes in time.

My swim was successful. That was the goal. I was elated to be getting out of the water in one piece and not on the kayak. I finished the swim in 38:04, despite finding myself in the middle of the lake at one point and swimming against the crowd at another. I was very nervous at first, and it took awhile to relax into the swim. But half-way through, I felt confident I could finish and excited I would.

The bike was fun and I felt really good and strong. I'm glad I wore a long sleeve jersey- I get cold. I did the bike with transition in 1:41:55, slower than i normally ride, but I was fearful of the wet roads and took it easier than I normally would.

Run was the worst part for me. I didn't mind the hills and actually had a smile on my face the whole way because I was so glad I'd be finishing, but I couldn't get rid of the cramp in my calf until mile 4. I guess I need to work on the bricks a bit more.

Alas, it was a great day and I had the wonderful support of friends and family cheering me on in my hometown. I look forward to more races, better times, and a lot more fun. I decided to join the mmtri after finishing, and can't wait to meeet everyone.
