Nations Triathlon Relay race report
Before I joined the club in June of this year, I signed up for the Nations Triathlon with two other friends to do the relay. Here's the brief report.
Our swimmer was the one who kept us motivated and organized in the days leading up to the event. This was key. In addition, he had just done Columbia some months ago, so I knew he would be a good addition to our team. During the swim he had some difficulty staying on course due to difficulty seeing the buoys in the sun, but overall he enjoyed it.
It was great seeing my swimmer run into transition. I couldn't wait to get moving, and after I got going I found the bike course to be very fast with not much wind. Fortunately I was able to pass several others and pick up some time, but in general I found the course to be congested with riders in the narrower sections. On more than one occasion I had to hit the brakes. The Nations Triathlon is certainly a big event, no doubt about that.
In general, it was a great opportunity to completely focus on one of the three events and just go all out. I would recommend doing a relay just for that experience alone.
Our runner was an incredible athlete who races for several teams including Charm City Run. We were very fortunate to have him with us. He pulled off an amazing time, and we ran the last 50 yards with him to the finish line.
We ended up in 3rd in the male relay division.
Overall, we had a great time, and I was proud to be sporting my new MMTC shorts.
