I started toward the front this time which paid dividends by not having to wade through so many runnesr as you do when you start in the back. During the first mile, my legs felt like chunks of firewood and I was convinced I wouldn't finish. At one mile, my watch vibrator went off and I could see I was on a 7:15 pace--I figured it was around 8:15! The pace and intensity of the other runners carried me forward!
I maintained that pace until the big hill @ 108 and faded a bit after that. However, I started thinking how I'd be feeling if I'd swum a mile and biked 25 and was trying to finish high in my age group so I decided maybe I had some left in me...then had a nice last 1/2 mile kick to the finish line and then went to the refreshment tables ad my first beer @ 9:15 in the morning in quite some time!! The food was quite good, and plenty of it.
