Typical early morning preparation. Water temp was great with a moderate current. Swim start went well with a good pace, I stayed in the middle of the pact but managed to pull away from the human blender. Three-tenths before the swim finished i decided to sprint to the sand. By the time i got out of the water and jumped on the bike, all the lactic acid that had built up went from my upper body, straight to my legs! Coming out of T1 i lost one bottle so that left me with one bottle of water for the bike split. I took one gel on the bike. T2 went much smoother but could feel the lack of fluids in me. First .5-mile on my feet i took another gel. At the 3-mile turn-around point I picked up the pace and took another gel at mile 4. I used the course water at each station. Overall I pushed hard but think i went too hard in the swim, causing me to have to deal with the burn of lactic acid the rest of the race. It's a good experience to learn to handle it. Overall i was happy with the race but feel something was off to cause me fatigue so early on in the race.
