Comment: Green Gummy Bear saved my life

Race Report:

This was my 2nd Half Marathon and very 1st race report.

After a bit of a stressful morning (see Jim Mitchell’s race report), I decided to stand in my starting corral and listen to some relaxing music for about a minute to try and drown out the crowd noise and mentally prepare myself for the race. Before I knew it I was off and running with Jim and Gloria. They didn’t stay with me long but it was nice to have someone to start with.

Since my 1st Half Marathon was the Disney Princess race in March, which was totally flat, I was a bit concerned that this one would be much harder. I am a pretty competitive person and I really wanted to beat my time, but wasn’t sure it would be possible. All of these races are so very different.
I had trained well the past 4 months so I knew I was prepared. All of the training was near my house which is very hilly so I was hoping that would help me. And boy did it! I never felt there was much of a hill the whole time and had no trouble at all running “all those hills”. I was able to beat my Princess race by 6 minutes.

I do need to give a shout out to the guy with a platter of gummy bears near mile 10.5. I reached out to get some and only came away with 1 but was it soooo good. I think I need to start training with some gummy bears. I also need to thank Jim for running with me so many times over the summer and Mike and Kim for getting me through that last long run of 12 miles.

It was fantastic to see my parents cheering me on around mile 10 and hanging out before and after the race with many MMTC members – Jim, Heather, Gloria, Mike & Loretta and getting to cheer marathoner Lindsay on while trying to make the way to my starting corral.

Congrats to all of the runners and I hope to be back next year.
