Warmed up for 15 minutes on the trainer. Bumped into Jesse Leitner at the start and ran the first mile or so with him. He was doing the entire marathon and I was just doing the half, so when he told me it was time for me to go I took his advice and picked up the pace a bit. Just past the turn-around at mile 7-something I passed Jessie going the other way. He was less than a half mile behind me so I knew he was smokiní!
Interesting little factoid here: As I was headed back up the trail after the turnaround the mass of people coming the other way were right around 6 miles at an hour.
Finished 10 miles in about 1:12.
Goal was to get as close to 1:30 as possible and I was pretty close. Final time was 1:35 and change, but I did get 2nd in my age group somehow and 65th overall! In the last tenth of a mile some guy came up behind me, so we did a sprint finish and he won. I ended up dry heaving a couple of times - that's never happened to me before.
Got a post-race massage from June and just as she was finishing up I heard my name called for the award! I was really surprised to place in my age group.
