This was my first half ironman. I was very nervous, but after having dinner with the club on Saturday, I was more at ease. Thanks to Melissa for organizing.
I was having a hard time deciding what to wear. I would of loved to wear the mmtc tri top, however when I tried it on, I looked like I could work at hooters, because my girls were too big for it. ):
I arrived at the park around 550. I set up my gear, and I had noticed that I had a flat 10 min before transition was closing...holy crap. The nice guys at Tri sports changed my tube, and I was praying that I would not have any flats on the course. I spent 40 min in line at the bathroom and almost missed my wave.
Swim 44:07. This is slower that I had anticipated. It seems like the buoys were not in a straight line and moving due to the current? I felt good otherwise, caught some people in the wave ahead.
T1- 4:13. Sunscreened up, double checked to make sure I had everything.
Bike 3:25.51 I was able to get on the aero bars more than I had during training. I was being passed quite a bit, but reminded myself not to worry about it. I was here just to have a good time. My bento box was not big enough. I witnessed some poor girl get hit onher bike as another person swung open a porta potty door...so I was more cautious after that! I lost my peanut butter sandwich on the course when my glove stuck to the velcro from the bento box.
T2 6:34- Wow it is hot..do I really have to run 13 miles? Drank some more, reapplied sunscreen.
R 2:57.16. Ouch. I had the garmin on. I felt dizzy quite a bit, notice the heartrate was over 187..and I walked during these times. I poured ice water over my head at each stop. I shoved ice down the sports bra at every stop. People were looking at me funny when they heard the maracas (ice) shaking in my sports bra. But hey, I was just trying to stay cool. My boys meet me at the turn and we crossed the finish line together. Joseph told me that he worked really hard, so he wanted to wear the medal.
Overall, I am glad that I finished in this crazy heat. I appreciated all of the support from the team as well. I look forward to Eagleman next year!
