Race Report:

I realized how spoiled we are with CTA run events, we have a horrible time finding packet pick-up, no signs, long hike and in the middle of a swampy field. Thankfully today the organization was much better! Last night 6 of us met up on South Street for dinner and people watching. We met up with 3 other women this morning and I met another MMTC member along the way--Pat who made the podium in her age group! It was great to see everyone along the way with 2 out and back runs and a bike that passed by the runners.

Due to high bacteria and water flow the swim was cancelled. I was a bit disappointed as I had spent the last two weeks psyching myself up for it after the man died in the Philly Tri. I have had foot issues since last Spring and 3 miles is about the limit for my foot, I was very woried about running 5!

Run 1 26.17
Slow and steady.

Bike 1:03:59
The bike was 2 flat loops along the river. The steps from Rocky, boathouse along the river, crew teams out for practice and lots of people out running and riding made it a really enjoyable ride. I passed quite a few people and was feeling really good about the ride until about halfway through loop 2 when my calves started cramping, I knew that was not going to be good for my already slow run! After a crowded loop 1, loop 2 was really enjoyable and I passed a lot of people, a new experience for me! I had 1 package of sports beans 1/2 bottle Gatorade & 1/2 bottle of water on the bike.

Run 2 52:03
On to run #2--or mostly walk. My calves were cramping horribly. I carried my own water and was happy to have it along the way. After the mile mark I was finally able to run for a bit. I got a whiff of the river near the turnaround and was glad I hadn't been in it! By the end I couldn't run at all, my calves were toast. Thanks to everyone for waiting around for me and to Wendy Mello for coming out and walking the last 1/2 mi in with me.
