Last year was my first 1/2 marathon, the Baltimore Half. I finished in 2:17; this year I was delighted to finish with a sub-2-hour time.
My heart rate monitor went rogue. Maybe the battery needs to be changed, it was registering my HR at 202-220 and my Garmin kept warning me to slow down or my head was going to pop off, or something like that.
The entire race, my Garmin kept warning me. Needless to say, I cranked up the music on my I-pod.
In Waverly, a kind woman had a tray of Gummy Bears that she was offering to the runners. I ran by and tried to grab a handful; I ended up ripping into the tin foil tray and taking that along with a gaggle of Gummies. Awkward.
In Charles Village, a guy was toasting the runners ahead with a beer. As I ran by, I grabbed his beer and knocked it back like a shot. That was the smartest thing I've done all year to improve my speed work.
Wonderful race, great weather, a little breezy, which was nice for most of the course. On the 2nd part of Lake Montebello, we were running into the wind and as I entered Camden Yards, a gust lifted my hat off my head.
