I had such a fun time at the race on Sunday. It was fun to be part of Team Fight and MMTC and see all of our friends around!

I was thrilled with my time because I knocked off 17 minutes from last year. This is my fourth Columbia tri and it is amazing to me when I compare my results from the last four years:

2009- 3:36:34
2010- 3:15:57
2011- 2:57:35
2012- 2:40:32

I never would have believed that I could get that much faster! It shows me that my training actually worked. I have worked hard at training this year and am trying to learn to push myself more and let myself suffer a bit! I used to just allow myself to feel comfortable the whole time.

The best part of this race was finishing with my mom!! Out of 2000+ people in the race and us not seeing each other once since her swim wave went off, what are the chances of us finishing at the exact same time? It was a miracle! It was definitely an emotional moment! I couldn’t believe it when I ran around the bend to see the finish line and I saw her there and heard them announce “Sue Watson.” And she got 5th in her age group, adding to her large collection of triathlon and running trophies!

I was so happy with the race but later I found out that I missed the 5th place trophy by TWO SECONDS! My time was 2:40:32, the girl who got 5th was 2:40:30. I shouldn’t have taken that time to carefully dry my feet and put my socks on! Oh well! If I only I had known, I would have run two seconds faster!

Congratulations to everyone who raced on Sunday and thank you for all the volunteers and people cheering us on! I love our club and our hometown races!
