I've been running well this winter since I increased my cadence and have been trying to relax while running. After doing well in Linda's Big Tree 10k, I was looking forward to seeing how I did in the flat B&A trail half. It was a
perfect running morning. My goal pace was 9:15-9:20 with a stretch goal of 9:07, which would get me a 2 hour result. I did a 10 minute warm-up, and did a 9:25 first mile, but then a 9:10 second mile. I told myself to slow it up, but then my legs were happy to oblige and I felt like I shouldn't push past the 9:20-9:25 they were giving me for the next few miles. I had a couple 9:15's and felt better, so decided to put some oomph in for mile 11, where somehow I did an 8:40! Yay for Gu roctane! It felt okay, so I did another 8:40! Then the last mile didn't feel so okay. Actually, I struggled quite a bit, knowing i could possibly go under 2 hours. I only managed a 9:00, but that's all there was. I thought i came in under 2 hrs because my watch was showing 1:59 at the finish but the results don't agree. Still, I am very satisfied with my 2:00 half, and won't let a few seconds take away from smashing my half PR by nearly 16 minutes. Time to take a running break and concentrate more on the bike!
