Race Report:

Slept great and woke to a perfect day to run the B&A 1/2. Cool and cloudy. Lizzy Cowan and I got there in plenty of time to do a warmup with Kate McDowell.( Big shout out to both those runners who had a spectacular days as did Aleah Z and Kim Sheridan in the Marathon.) The warmup resulted in rethinking our race apparal. I ended up with just the right clothing. My first goal is always to finish. This year I gingerly added an 11:10 pace to the goal sheet. The race started out fine. At the 5 mile mark another runner told me we were on a 10:30 pace. I was very surprised because I didn't think I had gone out fast at all. I got to the downhill and came on up with no problem. In fact everything was going will till about mile 11 when I started to cramp a little in the calves (ok a lot). The wind also picked up there. I had consumed 2 GUs, some gatorade, water, and an Enduralyte by this time. A second Endurolyte and one more Hammergel kept the cramping at bay till I crossed the finish line. Lizzy was there cheering my on. My pace was 11:00 so I surprised myself. Last year's time was at least 10 minutes slower. I did train for this race differently than in the past. I did speed work. It works! My PR in the course was 10 years ago but I think I can best it. Annapolis Striders puts on an excellent race. I will run it again in 2013.
