I'd never run more than 10 miles before yesterday, and I registered for this run solely bc I figured I should see what 13.1 miles in Columbia felt like before the Half-Full. I just started running 2 years ago, and have had my share of injuries since then, barely able to run 2 miles this time last year. Also had a helluva spring, between my daughter's Bat Mitzvah and too many road trips to NC to take care of my mom, so all I wanted to do yesterday was see if I could maintain my LSD pace of 13:15/mile, minimize my walking, and enjoy the day with teammates and friends.
I totally underestimated how emotional it would be to pass mile marker 10, finally seeing what others had been telling me, that I had more running in me than I'd thought...and couldn't help but think about my mom and how she keeps blowing away her own expectations, too....
So, I'm really pleased with my run...my final race time doesn't take into account the time for the 2 bush breaks & one puppy rescue on the course, with a 12:34 pace for the first 2/3 or so, and a 12:23 pace overall for the time spent running.
Now I'm just trying to wrap my head around doing that AFTER biking 56 miles, but I guess I have another 5 months or so to figure it all out.
Many, many, many thanks to all.
