What a great race! The support, the friends, the tent, the suggestions...it all came together to make it a great experience. I had everything in plastic bags based on suggestions from MMTC members. Dry running shoes and socks made a big difference. I had a good swim for a change, and I am beginning to realize I am not a bad swimmer, it is just that others are faster than me in the water. Having a positive outlook helped me.Dawn zipping up always helps... Racing in memory of my mom was an additional gift, she is always around...but she was definitely with me on Sunday.
I came out of the water second in my age group, but T1 took 6 minutes. However, I wore long pants and a jacket. Felt I had a parachute on me, but it was good to sacrifice aerodynamics for comfort and warmth.
I was 3rd in age group at the start of the run. I shed the long pants and layers and just kept my MMTC tri shorts and top and changed into my dry socks and dry running shoes. My feet were frozen at the start of the run, but quickly warmed up. Half the way through the run I passed the guy that was second in my group, and I passed the guy that was first with about a mile to go. I did not have much left when I crossed the finish line. But Kim Sheridan was there to greet me and hug me! It was good to see Vigo also and of course Sadj and Bob.
I really, really enjoyed the race. The atmosphere was incredible and MMTC and Team Fight together rock!
Thanks to everyone and everybody for all you have done for me and the sport. I love what we do!
