I was planning to run this last year, but injury required me to drop out, so this race was more than a year coming.
Due to a minor setback in training, my longest training run was 12 miles, 2 weeks before the race. Came into the race feeling really good and really ready.
I was running really well and easy through to 8 miles at around a 9:15 pace, but then started to get some sporadic calf cramping. I kept running through it without much problem, but it started to get more frequent and more intense. During mile 10 things fell apart: the cramping got so bad it made my toes curl under and brought me to a complete stop. After it passed, I ran as well as I could, but my pace kept falling off. I started taking Gatorade and walking the water stops from 10.5 to the end. Other than the water-stop walks I ran it all in, but it hurt... a lot
goal was under 2:05, stretch goal was under 2:00; didn't hit either :(
I'm sure I'll be back next year to show this race what I'm capable of!
