For me this was a great run. My goal was a PR of 2:44 and I smashed that with a 2:37:44. I was over the moon about that until I looked at the distance on my watch and it showed only 12:71. I will admit that it's a little disconcerting but I'm still counting this in my win column. My hard work is paying off and I dare to say that I'm actually starting to enjoy running ;)
I know this was a new course this year and am glad that we got to go down Harriet Tubman instead of up. This was the perfect course for me, just flat enough but not "beach" flat and I loved going through the neighborhoods. This was my 5th half marathon (2nd this year) and my best one yet which is saying a lot since after Miami last year I said I would never run again!
My goal this time was negative splits which I remained focused on throughout the run (really helped keep my mind off the miles). I'm glad it served a purpose during the run because when I uploaded the info I apparently didn't come close to negative splits. Regardless, I got the end result that I was looking for and I'm developing a knack for running by feel, so now it's time to start pushing myself and seeing just how hard I can go....maybe ;)
This was the first half I registered for on my own instead of running with my usual group of friends. I was beginning to rethink that decision Saturday night, but I was lucky enough to have those friends join me on their bikes the WHOLE run!!! I topped that off with major support from the MMTC water stop so and I would have to say my first "solo" event was a complete success and a total blast. Thanks to all who volunteered, supported, stuffed, and cheered.
Would love to know if anyone else recorded a shorter course.
