Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the sport, the community, and also it also makes you feel good. The strong sense of community present in multisport is built upon a foundation of volunteering - people helping others. The Mid Maryland Triathlon Club relies on YOU, our members and interested parties, to conduct events and to promote triathlon around the area. Please volunteer. It makes you part of the event! No experience is necessary.

It's fun and it's easy to do! If you can help, for example, time athletes for the Run-Bike-Run, or have a kayak and can assist with Open Water Swims, or just get people moving on the weekly run, please look for a volunteer opportunity that fits your interests. Descriptions for each volunteer opportunity are provided below the sign-up sheet.

You must be logged in to the website to sign up on this page.

Volunteer Descriptions

Monthly Club Meeting volunteers need to arrive around 7:30 pm at Princeton Sports to help with a variety of things before the monthly club meeting (set up apparel items, hang club sign, greet visitors, answer questions about the club, etc). We also ask that you stick around for a few minutes after the meeting to help with clean up.

Run/Bike/Run Timers keep track of athlete's run and bike times at our weekly training session on Gateway Drive in Columbia. You need to arrive half an hour before the start time to sign up new athletes and sign in existing athletes. You only need to bring a chair and any drinks or snacks you might want. The club provides everything else. This weekly workout lasts about 90 minutes.

CTA Open Water Swim Clinic & Dress Rehearsal CTA needs swim buddies to swim with new or nervous swimmers at these two events. You may be paired with one swimmer for the entire event or may assist several swimmers. You do not need to have any lifeguard or first aid experience, but you should be an experienced open water swimmer, comfortable with staying in the water for an extended period of time, changing swim strokes and swim speeds, as needed.

Club ride and run leaders arrive at the meeting point early to greet participants, hand out cue sheets (if necessary), and point riders toward the start. The "leader" does NOT need to be at the front of the pack during the ride or run!

Adopt-A-Highway Trash Pickup involves cleaning up our adopted highway, which is Route 108 between Route 29 and Davidge Drive. MMTC provides coffee, bagels and munchkins. Due to State Highway Administration rules, no children allowed to participate and a maximum of 12 people can be out there at a time, so we are reserving slots for MMTC members only. Volunteers must have a signed waiver on file. If you have not done so, please print and sign the form, located on the MMTC Yahoo Group under the file section. You may turn in the form to the clean-up coordinator on the day of the pick up.
