Tuscan Chicken Tortellini (SavageMan) at Brenda's Pizzeria for dinner (w/milk)
Water bottle with 3 x No Cramps/Nuun/honey/maltodextrin concentrate on bike
Put 1/3 into Aero bottle with water before the start.
Woke at 6:15, left hotel at 7:15, arrive by 7:30 for 8:30 start.
Coffee, small-ish Bear Claw for breakfast.
Tried to eat muffin and NV Protein before start but couldn't, water then GU instead.
Since Valerie went to the bus, left my crocs & water bottle on the beach.
Took one of my 2 bike gels before the swim.

Swim:
Decided to record the race in Run mode so I could get my
Lava pants (should have worm sleeveless wetsuit for better breathing)
Clear swim mask (leaked right away, had to clear twice, should have checked)
Found some feet early, followed them mostly to the turtle turn around, no feet until the next buoy, then stayed with them most of the way back, lost them turning towards land, went too close to shore and had to come out to get the last buoy.
Solar glare was pretty bad, maybe should have used tinted goggles.
FB posted water temp: 74F, race morning 72.5F
Clear, 54F, Feels like 54F, Humidity 91%, Wind 1mph from W - by Klimat.app

T1:
Dried of with beach towel (too big) and put on thin socks and tri top (no gloves or arm warmers). Pulled up HR monitor from waistline.

Bike:
Did not get the tubular re-mounted on the front C50 and decided to use the heavier clincher Campy Zondas, front & rear) instead.
Disappointed to unclip on the Wall and not get another brick, but happy with my race overall, sneaking in under 7 hours.
Didn't set low enough gear and had a real problem getting started out of transition, even dropping one shoe, rookie mistake, forgetting how steep that 1st part it.
Started Edge 520 late.
Warmed up in sunshine before the massive downhills, going aero mostly and very comfortable going fast and passing many.
Start of the climb in Westernport felt like I was missing a gear, and heart-rate went from 135 to 177 quickly.
The right side was clear, so I went up, assuming I would be okay, but stopped hard when I popped a wheelie with my right leg and landed badly.
Tried to put that behind me and spend many hours in 1-1 climbing with lower back pain.
Standing the apex then reverse stretching helped a lot. Passed many, many riders, but also passed a few times.
Bike shorts kept being pulled down as I climbed seated, which doesn't normally happen.
Maybe it is a bad short/saddle combination?
No Team-Z on Killer Miller made it seem a bit harder, but wasn't cramping and had no issue.
Missed not being able to shift while aero, and shifting while climbing was not all that useful since I was in 1-1 often.

T2:
Started to change into dry socks, remembered to remove the bike shorts and ran with one of each sock.
Quick slug of Nuun and grabbed glasses, belt and hat.

Run:
Felt pretty good, but slow as usual these days.
Took No Cramps several times when I thought I felt one coming on.
Drank mostly Coke & water at each aid station, but took some Gatorade as well.
Took my GU at mile 10.
Hadn't been seeing anyone my age for a long time, then saw a guy with either 57 or 47 on his calf.
Quickly passed him and tried to keep it up in case he got motivated.
He hadn't and was just at the foot on the fire road as I finished it.
Crazy cramping started just off the fire road, but just kept shuffling.
Was at 6:46 at mile 12, giving 14 minutes to fish under 7.
Last aid station I drank double Gatorade and that pushed the cramps back for a while.
